The low tide

We wait for the high tide
around 6 am
or later
to take a swim.
But we wait for the low tide
to take a photo
of a bridge
that lies inside the sea;
we want to capture it from
beneath
or from above;
for perspective.
We wait for the low tide
to take a long walk
on the beach
inside the sea
when there's no water
but we still feel like walking
inside
and we watch out for our feet
or they'd get hurt
from the hard rocks
that the sea
left behind.
Each slow step
brings with it
a little new thought
that could be
absurd.

We wait for the low tide
to see the corals
and listen to the bubbles
or water drops
and watch the crabs
just crabbing around.
We wait for the low tide
to watch the waves
flow back
to where they came from
leaving a flat surface behind,
reflecting the green hills from far
away.
We wait for the low tide,
watch the sun set
till it fades away
and it keeps getting darker,
but we still want to stay
although
we can barely see
each other anymore
or find our way back
to the shore
and we hesitate
if we should walk further,
walk back,
or just stop where we are.
We wait for the low tide
so when the hight tide comes,
we'll have seen it all.
